 The 2x images in WordPress core, look a bit... wimpy.

 Since they are just recycled icon32 images, the borders don't pop like thy
 used to. You could argue this is a good thing, or intentional, but they
 just don't look as good as they used to in my opinion.

 I had Chelsea redo the bbPress menu icons, without using their icon32
 equivalent, so you could see the differences. I've attached a comparison
 between non-retina and retina, and while subtle, you'll notice the thicker
 borders on the bbPress icons have more contrast than the thinner borders
 on the others.
