 @ocean90 - I completely disagree.

 There are all sorts of situations in template building where a quick &
 convenient '''the_slug()''' function would be beneficial. The fact that
 you can't think of them doesn't

 Almost ''more'' importantly, as a theme/plugin builder, it seems intuitive
 to include it -- as analogous to '''the_title'''() and '''the_excerpt'''()
 -- and particularly ''unintuitive'' to exclude it.
