Comment:

 For what I have used links for in the past, was initially to do custom
 menus, now I use the menus function. The second thing I used them for was
 to put a list of links in a widget. I now use menus for it now too. The
 only missing piece is to have images for the links if i use menu.

 I'm thinking that if we used Vipers approach that we could reuse all the
 existing Menu code and functionality for links as well, as a more ideal
 interface.
