 By registering, I imagine you mean the code that implements
 spl_autoload_register(). SPL can be disabled before 5.3, so we can't
 consider it to be widely available. I suspect we will look into
 autoloading and PSR-0 when moving to PHP 5.3 is more than just a
 theoretical discussion — I don't see a minimum requirements change
 occurring before 2014, at the very earliest.
