 the shortcode. Also this could involve an UI change (How to add a link in
 the caption in the image properties popup?) or explicitly moving editing
 of captions to the visual editor after the image has been inserted.

 Would moving the editing of captions to the visual editor affect the
 pulling of EXIF data from those images?
