Comment:

 I'm still not convinced we need a explicit "GUID" system while we only
 support one update endpoint out of the box.

 Based on the fact that there has been no progess on this in over 18 months
 I am closing this as maybelater.

 I think there are much more important things to work on with respect to
 plugins at this time.
