Comment:

 I'm not convinced that exposing the Role of a user on a site is something
 we want to promote and make available as a generic template tag.

 We haven't seen a lot of requests for this functionality and I think it
 would be best served by custom code in a theme for now in the small number
 of cases where it makes sense.
