 Oh yeah you're right, that would be much better.  And I realized, with 3
 depths to the categories, there would still be duplicates even if depth
 was included in the_category.

 I think i'll give the plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-
 taxonomies/installation/ that you recommend a try.
