with WordPress. They're simply being distributed, stand-alone.
'''BY WORDPRESS.ORG''' though, yes? Thus they are pushed through the
WordPress plugin installer, in a direct connection to the servers and your
blog. Which ... Makes that a really shady thing since it's distribution.
Murky grey. I'd get a lawyer, and an answer as to what the wordpress.org
(not WordPress the app) was licensed as first.
Personally I don't have a horse in this race. I think that GPLv2 for
plugins is fine, and that they should come to some sort of level with
plugins vs themes.
> The repository policy is what it is, because the owners of the
repository want it to be that way. And there's nothing wrong with that.
But such policy decision should not be conflated with non-existent
licensing requirements.
I didn't think it was. I was positing, since Rarst asked me directly, my
view on why GPLv3 was no go with GPLv2.
> It makes integrating code/idea from plugins into core impossible if the
plugin is GPLv3.
That alone is a good reason, and it will keep any more legal/copyright
issues from becoming murkier. Like the issues we have with a certain song.
