 I thought that plugins which haven't been updated in two years no longer
 showed up in search results.

 This doesn't seem to be the case:

 http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/search.php?q=extra+feed+links

 The first result is the Extra Feed Links plugin, which hasn't been updated
 since 2009.
