 I think I do, too, at least on admin screens. It does get kind of lost
 because it's small. This would also be a quick way to address the
 accessibility issue, since I suppose a non-mouse user can't really use the
 colorpicker anyway.

 How do you imagine the output looking, both in terms of the input (that is
 user editable) and the CSS generated? rgba() plus a hex fallback?
