 Done in 19796-hack-day.2.diff :

 * use get_option( 'home' / 'siteurl' ) instead of home_url() / site_url()
 * Update .htaccess instructions to use the root directory, not ABSPATH

 Already done (just works):

 * Investigate custom content directories
