 tell WP when to load a generic template, so might as well pass whatever
 path they want.

 While this will probably be completely different, from experience with
 BuddyPress (as JJJ mentioned, this idea is somewhat inspired by their
 plugins.php) not all plugin developers will add additional possible
 template names (i've seen afew BuddyPress plugins that won't check much
 further than plugins.php)
