 I think there's a ticket somewhere in the org universe along those lines;
 maybe in the !BuddyPress trac. Years ago we tried nooping the main query
 loop, and discovered that !WordPress hates the idea in several ways.

 Would be worth exploring to optionally avoid the added overhead where it
 might not be needed.
