 Yes, there are hacks to make HTML5 partially work on older IE but hope
 you're not suggesting we have to force all WordPress installations and all
 themes to use them? That would potentially break all themes that serve the
 front-end as XHTML 1.0 and there seem to be some that serve it as XHTML
 1.1 or even xml.

 These seem to be handled by the error correcting in many current browsers
 rather than implemented as standard feature and a bit buggy in some. Not
 sure what the support in contentEditable mode is. In any case this is a
 "feature request" for TimyMCE rather than WordPress.
