 braydonf: What are the processing and speed implications for these 3
 solutions? New column is attractive because it's expanding on an existing
 table. A wp_media table is attractive because it fully segregates media
 out of the postmeta and wp_posts tables, the downside is also that it
 segregates the media to a new table.

 +1 for this line of thinking, either way.
