 I see the task in this ticket as an important bug fix, the mapping and
 other UI improvements could be made as a future improvement, or in a
 plugin.

 Moving widgets to the sidebar in the new theme, regardless of position, is
 *much more* useful than dropping them all into Inactive like it does now.
