Comment:

 If you want to retrieve <img> tags in the post content, I suggest you use
 PHP's [http://www.php.net/manual/en/domdocument.construct.php DOM
 extension]. Or look at the various plugins that extract the first image
 from the post content.

 Either way, this is not something that should be part of WP core.
