The screen shots are looking great.
A concern would be that when ui updates, the theme would have to be re-
rolled (wouldn't it?) and whatever changes you've made updated also.
I'd rather keep the maintenance upstream by just including the
"Smoothness" (for fresh) and "Cupertino" (for classic) Themes in their
default state, and not merge them into wp's css. Should be way easier for
maintenance.
"Smoothness" and "Cupertino" seem really close to the admin themes as
is...
I think it'd be nice to eventually move the core ui elements into these
themes (but probably not right a way as that'd be much refactoring for
little benefit I suppose).
Just some thoughts
