 Any chance JJJ's patch can go into 3.3, and we can continue working out
 the rest of the details after that? The piece that went into 3.2 made it
 much easier to display private pages on the front end, but as davecpage
 has discovered, it's still virtually impossible to deal with the back end
 issues without hacking core.
