 The list table API will hopefully be made public in WP 3.2.

 Even before that, you still had some helper functions:
 get_column_headers(), print_column_headers() etc.

 General comment (not particularly directed at john316media): If you're
 going to complain about the current implementation, at least take time to
 learn what's already there.
