This is definitely '''not''' an IE bug. Carriage returns are treated as
white space, this is part of the
[http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/text.html#h-9.3.2 HTML standard]
(section 9.3.2). Floating isn't really an option because it would require
positioning within another container to get certain layout to work
correctly. WordPress should simply not insert carriage returns.
