 Patch creates the default modes. Issues:

  * The taxonomy system does not guarantee you will get the slug you ask
 for, especially if global terms are enabled.  Taxonomy API enhancements
 might be need so the term associated with a certain slug can be used
 regardless of whether it's name matches the requested name.
  * On multisite installs, this will be stored per blog even though it will
 always be the same. If plugins and themes will be adding their own modes
 (which defies part of the point), then this is a feature. Otherwise it is
 waste.
