Comment(by WraithKenny):

 I'm with Justin on this, Post Formats shouldn't bar non-standard formats,
 or at least, they deserve some consideration.

 A list of formats, on the codex page or some definition in core, should
 serve as the list of formats that have achieved standardization, and when
 working with these, consistency and portability are expected and
 important.

 And yet, emerging standards, ones not yet on the list, should have their
 place. Do we want them in the new system somehow, or is Category Styles
 way of doing it the place for non-standard formats. (Or perhaps Mike's
 prefixing solution above.)

 The limitation as is will simply prompt people to do it the old way: Style
 up Categories. I'm assuming here that we'd prefer Theme designers to adopt
 the add_theme_support way of doing things.
