 Any chance the "standard" list could be pulled and cached from a web
 service on WordPress.org? That way the standard list could be decoupled
 from release and the community could add desired Post Formats more
 quickly, maybe by using an ongoing polling mechanism to see what people
 need?

 Just a thought...
