Comment:

 i have opened two threads for that problem - one in the plugin hacks and
 another in the theme dev forum - no answer.

 independend of that is accordingly to the wordpress documentation
 described to exit the function - no return described.

 so there is no possibility to return a response object or array -
 otherwise the documentation is wrong.
