 Ah :) Okay, it's all clear, media was not working properly under
 switch_to_blog in either MU or in trunk up until I made some recent
 changes. If you had come up with a custom setup that was working before,
 it is probably broken now.

 Both UPLOADS & BLOGUPLOADDIR are constants that refer to the original
 unswitched blog. The last change blocks those being used when switched.

 You should be able to sort something out using the upload_dir filter.

 We may be able to do something more flexible in a future release, but I'm
 not planning on tackling it this close to RC.
