 I propose putting the menus side by side on the top of the page and a
 single available items area below them. This makes te dragging distances
 generally shorter, which is good in my opinion. The “special items” could
 be dragged just like any other item, just open the select item menu when
 the user releases mouse button or clicks a button on the menu item widget.
 I have images to clarify these changes, just don’t know how to put them
 here.

 Also, I think users would find useful to have “subpages of a page” and
 “subcategory of a category” items with exclude fields.
