 Persisting post type data and making it editable will just lead us into
 the mess that is the current roles implementation, especially since post
 types, like roles, have translated strings that all too often break
 serialize().  The WP model for custom taxonomies and other things is that
 plugins register on every page load and the data is stored only in memory
 and only for the duration of that page load. Once the plugin is
 deactivated the data disappears.
