 That's all precisely why I classified #11677 as a bug, because this is not
 intended behavior. The feature is double-click to open the inline editor.

 The code should be doing more or less what you're describing -- as long as
 one is open, not closing it unless "Cancel" or "Save" is clicked.

 This is a question of reproducing it because no developer has commented
 her saying that they are able to (and why). I believe that it is happening
 to you, we just need to narrow it down to the circumstances and steps for
 failure first.

 I have tried turning on comment moderation shortcuts and still nothing.
 Please disable all plugins or create a new installation of 2.9 and let us
 know if you can still reproduce it.
