 I think we should probably revert this for 3.1 and fix properly in 3.1

 These functions have been broken in this respect for a long time and we
 shouldn't been hacking around the brokenness in the Theme which is meant
 to serve as an example.

 Instead we should fix this properly in the next cycle.
