Comment:

 Can you supply the cron-related options from the database? From memory,
 it's 'wp_cron' or similar (has cron in it at least)

 They'll show us what entries are there, and might help pinpoint why its
 taking so long..

 Note, That later versions of WordPress include major cron improvements, So
 a 2.6 bug may not still exist, it just appears to create the same end
 result.
