Comment:

 WordPress currently allows you to replace the database in use via
 utilising the override file wp-content/db.php, Thats the best way to go
 about this for now.

 It might be worth you making the patch against the 2.8 branch, as it seems
 to remove a lot of 2.9 changes and includes a lot of spacing changes which
 makes it a bit harder to follow some of the smaller points.
