 Hint: try non-utf7 chars. I've seen similar things happen too -- and not
 just for a single letter -- with foreign chars while looking into a
 separate ticket.

 I had picked them up on the pravda's site, in case you need varieties of
 test cases. it doesn't happen with all chars, but it definitely happens
 with some.
