 tests done:

  - create a user with no username (succeeds), from register form and edit
 user form
  - create a user with existing email (fails), from register form and edit
 user form
  - update user to new email (succeeds)
  - update user to existing email (fails)
  - create user with dup user_nicename based on email (succeeds with a
 suffix)

 dunno how to test this any further...
