#10254: "An unidentified error has occurred." on Custom Field update

Component: Editor | Version: 2.8
Severity: normal | Keywords: Custom Fields

Whenever I click Update to update the contents of two different Custom
Fields, I get "An unidentified error has occurred." in pink at the bottom
of the Custom Fields area of Edit Page.
It appears to be related to the fact that the value of the two Custom
Fields involved begin with a first line made up of only the two characters
"?>". When I remove the first line, the error disappears.
Despite the error message, the Custom Fields do appear to be updated
correctly.
I am using the Default Theme. This error occurs in the three browsers
that I have tested: IE8, IE8 in Compatibility Mode, and Firefox 3.0.10.
