 Ah, just looked at the patch. Looks like thats a nice way to go about it.

 Westi's idea of letting the user choose a username later on sounds like a
 good idea, Just a extra explanation of "You currently do not have a
 username, You may optionally create one now. Please note that once your
 username is chosen, You cannot change it"
