Comment:

 Not sure whether that means it's any more likely to get in or not... but I
 have updated my patch, which now works perfectly on trunk (and without the
 bugs which were present in my earlier patch).
 I believe the new patch works perfectly, and would like to see it
 committed before it gets out of date again... what needs to be done?
