 the other issue I noticed is, while the old widgets are indeed converted
 properly on the widgets screen (the WP ones anyway), it fails to save the
 widgets once converted. :-|

 the patch I attached fixes this too. merely visiting the dashboard
 converts and saves the stuff properly.
