 Just rechecked that for you.. {{{esc_sql()}}} uses $wpdb->escape, And like
 Ryan posted higher in the thread, Handles arrays.

 The entire reason for the warning, will be that
 {{{$hierarchical_post_types}}} was not an array, Now, For whatever reason
 that is, It shouldnt be happening.. so escaping will not help here.
