Comment:

 I guess this is not only about DB queries but also about querying the file
 system for image dimensions and so on.

 Since this is a shorttag or shortcode, a prototype can be easily created
 in a plugin. A plugin will help to discuss this feature better as well
 because it would show how many load it will generated factually. Otherwise
 everybody might have an own idea on how this looks like and will make own
 assumptions about the load.
