Comment:

 This work is done by wptexturize and it is turning the double hyphen into
 an en-dash.

 If you want to disable this you have two options:

  * Wrap the text in <code></code> to mark it as code and it will not be
 converted.
  * Disable wptexturize for your site or for individual posts using
 something like http://alexking.org/projects/wordpress/readme?project=wp-
 unformatted
