 I've updated a new and somewhat simplified patch (though it does not call
 the shortcode regexp function, so no code reuse). I've updated my test
 case with the escaping. I can see it failing on fringe cases like

 {{{
 [[shortcode]
 }}}

 (i.e., two opening brackets and only one closing bracket), but I
 personally could live with that.
