Comment:

 Please try patch against 2.8 svn. See if it fits, you should be able to
 hook into the filter 'theme_locale' with an additional parameter $domain
 if your theme supports that.

 if i remember correctly, then you can place language files somewhere
 inside your themes directory and they get auto-loaded.
