Well, the according docblock does not state that 'timestamp' should return
the current time 'in GMT', it must return the current timestamp. I can not
see GMT anywhere there.
I would suggest to add another $type = 'timestampgmt' that will return
what you are looking for. buddypress (and other plugins) can use it then.
otherwise those plugins coul wrap this function and create such a
calculation on their own.
