 The post needs to know how many groups there are so it can create the
 separate groups in the 'gallery' area. The same function I am manipulating
 to show the different groups is not only used in 'gallery' but also in the
 'media library'.

 If I were to post the information in postmeta, now that I think about it,
 I would have to re-write on how those two sections get there data.
