Comment:

 Hi, I've just come across this problem (there are workarounds, obviously,
 but it's not ideal).

 I can't see any ticket for a the_author_im($type) (which would be ideal).
 Did the idea get dropped? If so, could we go with a quick
 the_author_jabber() function?
