 Tahoma is a very good UI font -- that is what it was designed for:  “to
 address the challenges of on-screen display, particularly at small sizes
 in dialog boxes and menus”[ 1 ] -- but not a very good web font:

  1. No italics (just regular and bold)
  2. Its bold is too bold
  3. I don’t think it looks good at large sizes

 Also, it is not part of the MS web fonts.

 A web-typography expert (I’m not one) would certainly explain better.
