 This last diff is an improvement, but it's not foolproof.

 I tested it with a plugin that was a single file in the plugins folder.
 But the update was multiple files in a subfolder. (Not a common scenario,
 but one that could be duplicated on other installations.)

 The update mechanism deleted the first folder in my tree (which was
 nothing to do with the plugin I was updating), left the original file
 behind, the copied the new updated plugin.
