 Yeah, sorry if that was unclear...

 I just don't see the value in using the permalink for this if the
 permalink can change anyway. What's more, as has been shown, you can get
 conflicts when you do imports and such, if you are importing from your own
 older blog and so forth.

 A UUID makes more sense. It's unique across the whole of space and time
 (in theory). It's shorter than most permalinks. And it's built in for just
 this sort of usage.

 Quick and dirty example patch attached.
